Background
Bill is recognized as a thought leader in the field of social responsibility, particularly in integrating programs with a firm’s overall strategy. Most recently Bill was Director of Corporate Social Investments at Lenovo where he created programs to help 100,000 entrepreneurs build and grow businesses in distressed communities. In this role he created a strategic link between Lenovo and global entrepreneurship, reflecting Lenovo’s own history and brand ambitions, and helped to increase Lenovo’s brand image measurements on social responsibility by over 100% in 18 months.
Prior to joining Lenovo Bill was Director of e-Business Solutions marketing for BuildNet, a startup that raised a record amount of investment capital and garnered 40% market share in the homebuilding industry. Earlier, Bill was with IBM’s PC Division in several marketing roles, including Asia Pacific Market Manager and Global Product Launch Manager.
Bill serves as an advisor to the X-Prixe Foundation’s Global Entrepreneurship Prize, and also serves on several nonprofit boards. He is the creator of the Carolina HopeFest, a music and arts celebration that benefits women and children in Africa affected by HIV / AIDS.
Bill has a bachelor’s degree in theology from Grove City College, an MBA from Duke University, and studied International Business Management at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
Personal
Bill and his wife Rebecca have three wonderful children, and live in Durham, North Carolina. He is an amateur musician and an extremely unaccomplished triathlete.
